Study permit

The Study permit is an authorization issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that allows a foreign national to legally study in Canada at a Designated Educational Institution (EED/DLI) for a period of more than six months. Designated institutions are those approved by a province or territory to accommodate international students.

Obtain a letter of acceptance from a designated institution (EED)

You must first be admitted to a college, university or other institution on the official list of designated educational institutions (EEDs) and receive your official acceptance letter.

Prepare and submit the online study permit application

You create an account on the IRCC portal, complete the study permit application form, upload the required documents and pay the application fees.

Provide biometric data and wait for decision

After submission, you give your biometric data (prints and photo) to an approved center, then you wait for the decision of IRCC which sends you a letter of introduction if the request is approved.

Where and how to apply for a study permit visa?

The request is made online on the official website of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), via a secure user account, then the filing of biometric data is made in a visa center (CDRV/VAC) in your country of residence.
