Frequently asked questions

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions onimmigration to Canada. If you don't find your answer, nohesitate to contact us.

  • Is LMB Immigration Service a recognized immigration office?

Yes, LMB Immigration Service is a recognized immigration office. We are a private regulated immigration consulting firm. Our Senior Consultant, Khaled Belhassine, is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (CRIC) with the R1032296, Member of the ICCRC (Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council) / MiFi #12273.

  • What are my chances of success with your services?

As regulated consultants with in-depth expertise, we maximize your chances of success by preparing a complete, compliant and well-documented file. We are familiar with IRCC and Provinces assessment criteria, which allows us to guide you effectively. Final decisions belong to government authorities (IRCC, provincial governments), but our experience and professionalism significantly increases your chances of getting approval.

  • How much do your services cost?

Fees vary depending on the type of service and the complexity of the file. We offer an initial consultation to assess your situation and provide you with a personalized quote. Government fees (IRCC, provinces) are still in addition to our fees.

  • Do you offer online consultations?

Yes, we offer in-person and videoconference consultations. Our services are available in French and English.

  • Can a regulated immigration consultant speed up the processing of my file?

No, a consultant cannot influence processing times established by Canadian authorities. However, it can ensure that your file is complete, compliant and filed properly, thus reducing the risk of delay.

  • What are the advantages of working with a regulated consultant for my studies in Canada?

A regulated consultant helps you choose the right program, prepare your study permit application, and meet all the requirements of the Canadian authorities, which increases your chances of approval.

  • Do I need a visa to visit Canada?

It depends on your nationality. Some countries require a visitor visa, while others only need an electronic travel authorization (AVE). A consultant can guide you according to your situation.

  • What should I do if my request is refused?

In case of refusal, a consultant can analyze the reasons for the refusal and advise you on the next steps, such as a new request or a recourse if applicable.

  • Is there a refund on services provided by LMB Immigration Services?

No, the fees of regulated consultants are non-refundable, as they cover the time, expertise and services provided for your file. However, a clear contract specifying the conditions will be established before the start of the services.

  • Can you guarantee accelerated processing of my file or shorter delays?

No, I don't guarantee any accelerated processing, or processing times that will be shorter, because no one can guarantee this. However, I help you not waste time through the process.

Permanent residence

  • What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an application management system for three federal economic immigration programs: the Skilled Workers (Federal) Program, the Canadian Experience Class and the Skilled Trades Program. Candidates create a profile and receive a score based on the overall ranking system (SCG/CRS). The highest ranked candidates receive invitations to apply for permanent residence.

  • How long does it take to get permanent residence?

Deadlines vary depending on the program. For Express Entry, IRCC is aiming for processing in 6 months after submitting the full application. Provincial programs (PCP/PNP) can take 12 to 24 months. Delays are indicative and can vary greatly.

  • Can I immigrate to Canada without a job offer?

Yes, several programs do not require a job offer. Express Entry, for example, allows you to immigrate without a job offer if you have a sufficient SCG score. However, a job offer can add points to your profile.

Work permit

  • Do I need an LMIA to work in Canada?

It depends. A labor market impact study (LMIA/LMIA) is generally required, but there are many exemptions. For example, francophone mobility allows francophone workers to work outside Québec without LMIA. Intra-company transfers and some international agreements also offer exemptions.

  • What is an open work permit?

An open work permit allows you to work for any employer in Canada, without being linked to a specific employer. It is available for certain categories, such as spouses of skilled workers or students, applicants for permanent residence, and international graduates (PTPP/PGWP).

  • Can I work while I wait for my permanent residence?

It depends on your situation. If you have a valid work permit, you can continue to work. Some PR applicants may be eligible for an open work permit while processing their application, including applicants awaiting a final decision.

Study permit

  • What is a CAQ and do I need it?

The Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) is a document issued by the Quebec government required for most international students wishing to study in this province. You must obtain the CAQ before applying for your study permit to IRCC.

  • Can I work with a study permit?

Yes, most international students can work up to 24 hours per week during study sessions and full-time during official holidays. Specific rules apply, and you must maintain full-time student status.

  • What is the Post-Diploma Work Permit (PTPD)?

The TPPD enables international graduates from designated Canadian institutions to work in Canada after their studies. The duration varies according to the length of the program (from 8 months to 3 years). It's a great way to gain the Canadian experience necessary for permanent residence.

Family sponsorship

  • Who can I sponsor to immigrate to Canada?

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouse/de facto spouse, their dependent children, and their parents/grandparents. In some limited cases, other family members may be sponsored (brothers, sisters, nephews, orphan nieces, etc.).

  • How long does it take to sponsor a spouse?

The processing of a spouse sponsorship application generally takes between 12 and 24 months, but the delays may vary. If your spouse is in Canada, he may be eligible for an open work permit during treatment.

  • How does parent sponsorship work?

The Parents and Grandparents (PGP) sponsorship program works with a system of interest to sponsor. During opening periods, citizens/RP submit their interest, and IRCC selects potential sponsors by draw. The selected sponsors must prove that they have the necessary income for the previous 3 years.

Quebec

  • What is the PEQ (Quebec Experience Program)?

The PEQ allows temporary workers and eligible Quebec graduates to obtain a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ). The Government of Quebec reactivated its two parts for two years in June 2026. Always check the applicable official criteria before filing an application.

  • What is Arrima?

Arrima is Quebec's declaration of interest system, similar to Express Entry for the federal government. Candidates create a profile and may be asked to submit a CSQ request during selection periods. This is the portal for the Skilled Worker Selection Program (PSSTQ) and other programs.

  • Should I speak French to immigrate to Quebec?

French is generally required for most immigration programs in Quebec, particularly the PEQ. A minimum level (typically level 7 on the Québec scale) is required. Accepted tests include TEFAQ and TCF Quebec.
